Choose New Era???
Posted in 1997
Almost a year ago, a client that I do work for was ready to deploy new application development on New Era, at our recommendation. Due to budget changes and internal restructuring the project got put on hold. So many things have happened in the intervening time that it seems that New Era may not be the wise choice any longer. I'm curious about the forthcoming Jworks product. Since everything seems to be going to Java these days it seems it might be a better choice. The details I am able to glean from the Informix Web site aren't entirely clear on what the product is. * Is it basically the same as New Era, except that it spits out Java code? It seems to have similar tools: Supertable editor, form painter, language editor. * Is there going to be an upgrade path for those who are now using New Era to Jworks? Or are New Era folks stuck with New Era? (i.e.: will New Era migrate to Jworks?) * Will Jworks supercede New Era? (Given Java's momentum in the market, it seems inevitable.) * How does New Era compare to current front-end tool offerings such as Powerbuilder, Delphi, etc??? Thanks in advance for any informed advice. -Cosmo Lee
