The trick you need was just mentioned yesterday: the infamous "Condition Delete" article in the Winter 1990 Tech Notes. Maybe some at Informix has an on-line copy of the article, and could post excerpts? In any case, the essence of the trick is as follows. 1) You need to be able to set up your form so that the last field of the row is something where user input is not needed. If there aren't any display only fields in the array, you have to add a dummy one. 2) Mark that last field NOENTRY in the .per file. The trick is that if the 4GL code does a NEXT FIELD dummy (where dummy is the name of the last field of the row), it has to go the next thing after "dummy" because "dummy" is marked NOENTRY. But since "dummy" is the last thing on the row, the effect is to jump down to the next row. 3) To make use of this, set up a variable "wanted" with the number of the row you want. Put a BEFORE ROW clause on the INPUT ARRAY that does something like this before row let curr = arr_curr() if curr < wanted then next field dummy else let wanted = 0 end if This will bump you from row to row till you get to the one you want; then you reset "wanted" to deactivate the bumping action (and allow users to move up if they want).
