Improving NewEra programs Performance

Hello all: I've been developing a project using INFORMIX-NewEra 2.00 on Windows 3.11 (Client) and SCO UNIX (Server). After all, my programs have a low performance (~18 seconds loading!). My programs use AFCL and another made_in_house libraries. I have compiled to executable, I'm trying to compile some libraries to DLL (I've had some problems with this). Is there any another thing that I've missed? If you're developing/deploying any NewEra application, what about the performance? What things you have done for improve performance? Our development/deployment hardware is Intel compatibles 486/80 with 16 MB RAM. I've tried on HP Vectra P5/75 with 8 MB too, the performance is poorer!
