Does Sun DBE slow Informix 5.02?

We are battling performance problems on a Sparc20 running Sun OS 4.1.3. The Database engine is Informix 5.02.UC6. We installed DBE in October, along with other changes and saw the performance on the machine degrade (both in DML statements and in cursor movement within screens). In speaking to one other Database Administrator in our company, I was told that they saw a noticable degradation with the installation of DBE in similar circumstances. My question is, has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone say for sure that DBE caused performance degradation? If so, does anyone know why? Send replies to timh@amgen.com and I'll post a summary.
