IDS On Win Vista Ultimate
Posted in 2008
A user installing IDS 11.10.TC2 on Windows Vista Ultimate got error -25580 when connecting with dbaccess (onstat worked); opening port 9088 in Windows Firewall with Advanced Security didn't help, and connections only worked with the firewall off. Suggestions from the machine notes were to turn on network discovery and NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and to check IPv4/IPv6 name resolution (possibly hard-coding an IPv4 address in the sqlhosts registry nodename). Another poster hit the same -25580 plus installer/user-creation failures on Vista Home, and was told Vista Home isn't supported/tested, advised to clean up the informix user, Informix-Admin group and registry key and retry on TC2W2 or later. No confirmed fix is recorded.

Hello: I just installed IDS 11.10.TC2 on Windows Vista Ultimate. The SO has all updates. When I try to connect to the engine I get error -25580. I figure that when Windows Firewall with Advanced Security is working I can't connect to the engine. But when I wrote a new rule opening port 9088 (the port engine is using) nothing hapens. Do anybody knows what to do?? Thank You.
The 11.10 Windows machine notes has the following: 3. Enable Connections on Windows Vista To enable connections between database servers on the Vista operating system, you must enable network discovery and NetBIOS over TCP/IP. To enable connections: 1) From the Control Panel, double-click Network and Sharing. 2) In the Sharing and Discovery section of the Network and Sharing Center, click Network discovery and then Turn on network discovery. 3) In the Network section, click View Status next to the Local Area Connection. 4) In the Local Area Connection Status dialog box, click Properties. 5) In the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, choose the appropriate Internet Protocol Version and click Properties. 6) In the Internet Protocol Version Properties dialog box, click Advanced. 7) On the WINS page of the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box, click Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP and then click OK. 8) Continue clicking OK or Close until all dialog boxes are closed. One other possible cause of the problem on Vista, from the machine notes: IPv6 Support IBM Informix Server supports Internet Protocol Version 6 (128 Bit Internet Addresses) as well as IPv4 (32 Bit Addresses). In order for the machine name specified in the SQLHOSTS registry to resolve to the correct IP address, the name services files on the Operating System should be correctly configured. For compatibility with older IBM Informix client and server products, assign the same hostname with both an IPv4 address and an IPv6 address. If the listener needs to be bound to an IPv4 address and the name services resolve the name in the order of the IPv6 address followed by IPv4 address, then an explicit IPv4 address needs to be put in nodename field of server registry. ----- Original Message ---- From: LUIS PANOZZO <lupasa@sisa.com.bo> To: ids@iiug.org Sent: Saturday, January 19, 2008 3:31:13 PM Subject: IDS On Win Vista Ultimate [11012] Hello: I just installed IDS 11.10.TC2 on Windows Vista Ultimate. Thank You.
But when the firewall with Advanced security is enabled, I can't connect to
the engine.
When use onstat, it works fine. But when using dbaccess I get the error 25580
telling socket not connected.
If the firewall is off dbaccess connects to the engine as well as any
application.
Hi Every one... Certainly installing IDS 11.10 TC1DE on winblow$ vi$ta is certainly a royal pain !! (Don't know who to blame...) *First: * norolesep_createinfxuser 3 - Could not add the specified user to the group. norolesep_adj_usr_right - -1073741823 Supposedly TC2 work this out but other problems arise... Need to manually create user Informix... * Second:* The default instance offered by the installer don't get installed (because of first?)... but well... going back from TC2-Trial to TC1-DE (previously having informix user created) it seems to work... But no, the instace doesn't get created and the gui instance program does not work... manual creation of the instance doesn't work either... further investigation reveal -25580 problems creating *sysmaster !!* Wich brught me here ! * Third: *Trying your suggestion enabling net bios over tcp/ip (IPv4) doesn't work. And really this comment on IPv6, I don't understand what I have to do... *Finally:* The comment of Mr. Panosso seems to be the only way to go... after disabling the firewall (ESET firewall in my case) make things work ! and very fast !!. *So:* Does anyone know of a procedure to successfully install IDS 11.xx-yy on Windows Vista? (BTW I'm on Home Premium), obviously with the OS firewall up? (NOTE: Google doesn't show much info... nor IDS developer sites, nor blogs). J. PD1: I thought the windows installer had improved at least some bits since I tested IDS 11.10 beta on XP which BTW sucked at that time) PD2: How much I miss linux/HP-UX installs... never this kind of stuff ! 2008/1/20 Guy . <gbowerman@yahoo.com>: > One other possible cause of the problem on Vista, from the machine notes: > > IPv6 Support > > IBM Informix Server supports Internet Protocol Version 6 (128 Bit Internet > > Addresses) as well as IPv4 (32 Bit Addresses). > > In order for the machine name specified in the SQLHOSTS registry to > resolve > > to the correct IP address, the name services files on the Operating System > > should be correctly configured. > > For compatibility with older IBM Informix client and server products, > > assign the same hostname with both an IPv4 address and an IPv6 address. > > If the listener needs to be bound to an IPv4 address and the name services > > resolve the name in the order of the IPv6 address followed by IPv4 > address, > > then an explicit IPv4 address needs to be put in nodename field of server > > registry. > > ----- Original Message ---- > From: LUIS PANOZZO <lupasa@sisa.com.bo> > To: ids@iiug.org > Sent: Saturday, January 19, 2008 3:31:13 PM > Subject: IDS On Win Vista Ultimate [11012] > > Hello: > > I just installed IDS 11.10.TC2 on Windows Vista Ultimate. > > The SO has all updates. > > When I try to connect to the engine I get error -25580. > > I figure that when Windows Firewall with Advanced Security is working I > can't > connect to the engine. > > But when I wrote a new rule opening port 9088 (the port engine is > using) > nothing hapens. > > Do anybody knows what to do?? > > Thank You. > > > > ******************************************************************************* > Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a response in the discussion forum. > > See you at the IIUG Informix 2008 Conference > The Power Conference for Informix Professionals > April 27 - 30, 2008 Marriott Overland Park (Kansas City), Kansas > http://www.iiug.org/conf > Registration Now Open!! > > > > ________________________________________________________________________________ ____ > Looking for last minute shopping deals? > Find them fast with Yahoo! I'm responding on behalf of Guy Bowerman, who is temporarily disenfranchised... From: Guy Bowerman <guyb@us.ibm.com> Subject: Re: Fwd: IDS On Win Vista Ultimate [11944] Hi Jean, My mail gateway from IIUG doesn't appear to be working at the moment so I don't know if anyone replied to this. One unknown here is that you are using a Vista Home edition. We don't support and hence don't test Vista Home, so it is possible you may be seeing a problem that is peculiar to Home edition. The error itself sounds like a TC1 problem with domain installs (see http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/blogs/page/gbowerman?entry=ids_problems_with_w indows_domains ) but I'll assume you've not set up domains in a Vista Home environment, so this might be something else. Is there any way you can test 11.10.TC2W2 or later, and not use Vista Home? Also, just to make sure we're not seeing any errors left over from a previous install, uninstall IDS, or if it's not installed just make sure you've deleted the informix user if it exists and Informix-Admin group, as well as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\Software\\\\Informix from the Registry.
