to IBM : Informix Gateway

Hi , Just a suggestion to IBM evaluate: Include the Informix Gateway "for free" with all editions of the product. Or at least , give a nice discount for clients who have a good amount of Informix licenses.... A reason why : Today the company where I work, we have: Informix (mainly system), Oracle , SqlServer, MySql . Two important systems are running over Oracle and SqlServer because they don't support Informix, but we need to centralize some information into our ERP which run in Informix. Some data/information , we need get from this two systems (Oracle/SqlServer) , we need to develop the interface to send this informations to Informix , developing in PL/SQL + Oracle Gateway and SqlServer SP (or pay our vendor to customize they application to connect into Informix and transfer the data) what isn't too smart since our desire is one day , have only Informix running here.... no Oracle , no SqlServer. And as plus, we are still trying(and insisting) do a POC using Informix as Data warehouse database... without much success for now (incompatible syntaxes , AFs abends when active DW directives/set environment, ...) , so... here we will need all data centralized. To marry various DB's consider using IBM's MQ messaging. We use it move data to/from AS400, Oracle, SQL-Server. There's also a datablade for it.
IBM MQ is for free ? Can use it to access other tables with regular DML ? at FROM clause for example? As far I know , only gateway allow this.... and will be much easy to developer with gateway because is transparant to develper. The gateway allow avoid any MQ admin overhead too... (and a employee/consultant with know-how of IBM MQ) Informix Gateway , will be much more naturally for an Informix DBA. ________________________________ De: RALPH GENTRY <gentrym@staples.com> Para: ids@iiug.org Enviadas: Quarta-feira, 14 de Novembro de 2012 10:24 Assunto: Re: to IBM : Informix Gateway [28828] To marry various DB's consider using IBM's MQ messaging. It's a bit like Tibco etc. You "publish" information to MQ and then someone will "subscribe" to it. It does not present other databases's structures to a local database. It is good to avoid the usual "buffer" tables where you INSERT/SELECT ... WHERE state = "To Process" UPDATE ... SET state = "Processed".... The MQ datablade can present you the Message Queues as virtual tables where you can INSERT/SELECT with a two phase commit protocol. Not sure if you can use these "tables" in a JOIN As far I know , only gateway allow this.... and will be much easy to > developer > with gateway because is transparant to develper. > The gateway allow avoid any MQ admin overhead too... Unless someone asks an Informix DBA to "publish" information to another non SQL system :) By the way.... Your problems with DW... which version are you using? Latest have some more SQL and please keep an eye on vNext. Hi Fernando , Thanks about this explanation , the MQ really is a nice software, unfortunately as your explanation, don't attend our need, we need something more pure SQL. Keep the integration and bring more and more data/information into our Informix database.. and this will be easily if we can fetch it and not push using others systems and others vendors technology... thus, we spend more time learning about their technology than ours (Informix). About the DW , at our last batch of tests we use 11.70FC5 ... I already downloaded the FC6 to check if some defects are solved, but I not install yet... I have notice about vNext , but at this moment I don't have much time to keep giving feedback ... so I prefer keep our tests with what already "works" ....
