The biggest initial problem I had was the fact that using DAO required use of the "PassThrough" option when querying the database. I'm not sure if this was due to the drivers we were using (SCO Vision), but in any case, this meant losing the ability to control transactions from within the code. Use of "BeginTrans" and "Rollback" had no effect because the server would automatically begin and commit a transaction before returning results to the client application. The workaround was to move all of our multiple update/insert/delete code into stored procedures where we had control of the transaction states. This works fine, but the Informix SPL is far more limited than VB and debugging is a pain. Having acquired VB 4.0 Enterprise Edition more recently, I was finally able to use RDO and regain transactional control from my VB code. The main problem with RDO is that many of the methods are very "ODBC driver" dependent. With the drivers we are currently using, Intersolv 2.12, we are not able to retrieve TEXT columns. We also have to deal with a confirmed bug with regards to "No more cursors available" errors occuring after executing approximately 100 - 150 queries. There are some silly workarounds that can be done to correct this, however. Hope that helps. - Robert Mayer - Memphis, TN
