Dear all, I have installed IDS 7.31.UD1 and 4GL, SQL 7.30.UC5 on Redhat Linux 7.2 Server. Then, I can run isql & i4gl on that Linux Server and can successfully create & connect to the database with the IDS 7.31 smoothly. However, when I installed Informix Client SDK (ver. 2.3) on a Win98 PC( or in a WinXP PC) and tried to connect the back-end database on that Linux server through client/server in a network by TCP/IP protocol, it always display error messages like -908. I have setup the connectivity files in the Linux server e.g. in /etc/hosts, /etc/services, /usr/informix/etc/sqlhosts Also I have setup the corresponding connectivity files and corresponding parameter in the Win98 / WinXP PC in the SetNet32 environment. As I am using Informix Online 5.20 on UNIX server, I remembered that I have to also install Informix-STAR on the UNIX Server such that other Win98/WInXP PCs can connect to the online database on the UNIX Server by TCP/IP client/server mode. Hence, do I have to install something like Informix-STAR on the Linux Server with the IDS 7.31 so that Win98/WinXP PC client applications can connect with the back-end IDS database on the Linux Server. Or does IDS 7.31 no longer need the I-STAR ( I-STAR function already built into the IDS server ? ) but there is something I have missed in setting up on the IDS / Linux Server ? Please kindly advise. Mike
Chow, The Linux RedHat 7.2 comes with a firewall by default. Did you disabled it? Please double check that (use chkconfig to look for a iptables or ipchains startup process). I had a couple of installations made with IDS 7.2 - 7.3 on Linux machines (RedHat, Debian and now Fedora) and all that was installed was the IDS on the server and CSDK or ICONN on the clients (either Win98/XP or other Un*x boxes). Any problems, just reply to this... Cheers, Juvenal A.
