Re: ISQL - concat problem

Hi, This seems to part of a 4GL program, not ISQL. Try: let accum = accum clipped, row1 clipped, row2 and yes you can say row[1,x]. The reason tah did not work is that you still have sixty bytes in accum, i.e. you are not truncating accum, but row1. For that to work try: let accum=accum||row1 let x=length(accum) let accum=accum[1,x]||row2 Hope this helps. Wayne PS. Hope this does not reach you hopelessly late, something seems to be wrong wih Internet connection to the rest of the world. * I need to create a procedure which writes to a special audit table. One of the columns in the audit table consists of several source * columns. The problem I have is when a move the first column of information into a char or varchar data type, isql seems to * automatically "pad" the value. Upon concatenating the 2nd value, it fails, because the contents of the variable is full. * * example: * declare row1 char30 * declare row2 char30 * declare accum char60 * * let accum= accum || row1 -- works ok, except accum contains 60 bytes * let accum = accum || row2 -- ignores row2 value * * I tried using a length function * let x = length(row1) * let y = length(row2) * let accum= accum || row1[1, x] -- doesn't work, appears you can not use a variable within the []'s?? * let accum = accum || row2[1, y] * * Any help would be appreciated. |Wayne Harlech-Jones |Windhoek, Namibia, Southern Africa |wayne@jones.mac.alt.na
