The best manual to read first for importing data is the Informix Guide to SQL:
Reference. Read the section on the use of the dbload utility. With a simple
command file that denotes the fields and the delimiter you can quick load data.
If you have a large amount of data, and you have set up transaction logging, run
a level 1 archive first to clear the logs. Otherwise they will fill up on you.
If you are new, I suggest that you work on an unlogged database until you get
comfortable.
