What about all of those existing Informix customers who loose 100% of their investment in legacy I4GL and ISQL applications when they move from UNIX to Windows NT? Informix is turning away a measurable segment of their customer base, and then wondering why they are loosing money. Hmmm, I see a potential cause and effect relationship here, why doesn't Informix? If Informix eventually decides that they have a strong enough business case (due to declining sales, and loss of customer base) to warrant porting ISQL and I4GL to NT (to run as a text based application in a text window), it will be too late. Once a customer has changed DBMS vendors, and incurred the expense of re-writing all of their legacy application programs, they are not likely to return. < stuff deleted > > -- > David Williams > Hey, it's just my opinion. I'm sure that I'll take some heat for this viewpoint... Oh, just a minute, there goes the phone again. It's yet another long time customer asking me what they need to do with all of their I4GL, ISQL, and ACE programs now that they have moved from UNIX to Windows NT... I sure hate telling them that they have completely lost their investment and need to start from scratch. -- Regards, Walter S. Tyszka (wstyszka@ingr.com) * Standard disclaimers apply *
