As someone else mentioned there seems now to be ODBC drivers available to read C-Isam directly. If these works well and the price is right that may be a better option. > We intend to use Delphi as client tool. > So what we need to bye is Infornix SE and I-Star to read our C-Isam > files? If you want to go the SE route yes, except with SE ver. 6 or later I-Start is included. Also there has been several changes in the C-Isam file format over the years, so you have to make sure you by the version of SE that uses the same format your C-Isam implementation uses. That may also be a problem with ODBC-drivers. > We have a RS-6000 whith AIX 3.2 and Reflection TCP/IP in our Windows > clients connected to the RS-6000. On the assumption this has a proper Winsock implementation included (ver. 1.1) it should work with any ODBC driver. > >This only works fully if the data in your C-Isam files > >are compatible with some SE datatype. > All our data is saved in character format. If you use ISO8859 on you Unix-box it's basically the same as the Windows character set. Are you using 7 bit ascii you may get a problem with your special swedish letters. If the ODBC-driver can't handle this (Informix CLI i believe can) it should be easy to do it in Delphi. The latter will require calling conversion functions all the time and therefore a lot of extra code, so ODBC drivers that handle this is better.
