renaming dbases

Subject: How do I rename a database? Therefore, my question: can I rename a database? If there were a way, then I could write shell scripts that worked as follows... dbrename real_data save_data dbrename test_data1 real_data (test programs on real_data) dbrename real_data test_data1 dbrename save_data real_data Jim Bander Tidewater Consultants, Inc. Then you wouldn't have to jeapordize your data by operating on it in such a global way that could lead to problems if the machine crashed during a rename or if your script exited for some reason w/out restoring state. So: setenv DB "test_data" (run test progs) Your progs could also get the db from an argument: set DB = "test_data" test1 -d $DB test2 -d $DB ... Bill Ross NASA Ames Research Center
