Creating a view

Folks, I am running RDS 4.10.UC1 and would like to as the following question: I have two tables that have the same structure (one temp, one permanent) and I would like to create a view that is the union of these two tables. My problem is that the UNION operator is not valid between SELECTS when the data are being selected into a view. Is there a work-around? Do I have a screw loose? Any comments would be appreciated.
