how to get SQL output > 80 columns wide?

I hate it when a select field1, field2, field3 output looks in a nice columnar format, you now need field4, and it goes to one-field-per-line mode.... How to prevent this? Scheesh, I can use a right-left scrolling pager if I have to... but sometimes the columns I request dont even add upto 80 chars!!! Ive played with setting stty columns to 132 and hacked termcap entries.... Even if the xterm i'm running is already wide and should accomodate... It wont display past 80 columns!!! Formatting was one of the biggest things I missed when I jumped from Oracle to Informix... Glad to be back with Oracle... SQL*Plus (extensions to SQL) are GREAT!!!! So is the "decode" statement... Geez! I know where you're coming from... don't know the answer either... Sorry... David Russell On Wed, 26 May 1999 15:07:00 +0000, "Alan W. No way to make dbaccess stop doing this. A few options:
o There are scripts on the IIUG Software Repository to reformat the
default output to columnar.
o Use unload to a delimited file and use Perl or AWK to reformat.
There are some scripts on IIUG for this also if you are weak in awk.
o Get Jonathan Leffler's sqlcmd program which does all that dbaccess
does and more and it does not change output formats at 80 columns.
