Re: Informix versus Oracle (Performance)

Informix Standard Engine (SE) is not a comparable product to Oracle7, nor should it be as it was designed to address a different market. Informix OnLine v7 is the appropriate product to compare to Oracle7. OnLine also bundles (at no charge) functionality that exceeds Oracle with Parallel Query option. In terms of performance, Informix has consistently been chosen by the leading hardware vendors to demonstrate the strength of their systems in TPC benchmarks. Parallelism is the next logical step in relational architecture to achieve performance and scalability. Most industry analysts agree that Informix is the clear technology leader. The Dynamic Scalable Architecture that is the foundation for OnLine v7 is radically different from SE and offers substantial advantages over our competitors. BTW... Chris Horrocks from CSC is speaking at our Data Warehousing seminar in Fort Lauderdale, FL on Sept 14th. I know that he is excited about Informix technology and our partnership (maybe because Informix doesn't compete with CSC in the consulting market like Oracle). -- Mark Sigler Client Services Engineer Informix Software, Inc. --
