Performance: Nested Subqueries

We have applications with SQL SELECT statements having more than 10 subqueries and over half of them are correlated subqueries. The code runs very slow for hours to complete. The database tables are in third normal form. What can I do about those type of SELECT statements in order to improve performance ? Would use of temp. table with index created and join help ? But the statement is about a page long. Thanks for any help ! Diana
