Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

Set your log device to /dev/null
(onmonitor/archive/tape parms)
and run ontape -c (Continuous backup of logs) in a
spare session (or background it)
The second step may be unneccessary as i have an
idea that Online will discard and reuse logfiles when
the log backup device is set to /dev/null.
Perhaps someone else would like to comment on
this.

(note: this is informix online 7.12 on SGI IRIX 5.3)
in order to make my databases work with netscape's
livewire pro (one of those web server/db interface
deals), i have to create them WITH LOG. after a day
or so of use, the logs fill up (according to the
informix online.log). i have no clue how to empty
them. the only thing i can do is reinitialize the
entire database and reload all the data. needless to
say, this is sub-optimal.
i don't even care about the contents of the logs. i
have to create the database that way or my netscape
programs start bombing all over the place
complaining "transaction not available (-256)".
is there any way to have the logical logs discarded
periodically or automatically emptied?
thanks in advance,
