But sorry, none of your ideas - or even all combined - cound not have accounted for this drag. In a fit of inspired madness, I deleted the table, rebuilt it and the restarted the load. It loaded like a greasy senatorial candidate switching positions! it started at ~1000 rows/second! Of course is slowed down after hte first 400,000 rows.
