This appears to be misinformation. There is no way that Sequoia could have altered OnLine 5.0's one-server-per-user architecture, which means that as soon as you have two or more concurrent users, it *will* use more than one processor at the same time (unless you only have one CPU in the machine or your opsys has a *totally* brain-dead scheduler). What you probably meant to say was that an individual server process cannot be spread over multiple CPUs, which is also partially untrue, as it *CAN* be configured to do parallel sorting and merging. >Don't know about SE, but I believe the restriction was due to >multi-process concurrency issues in Informix 5.0. The same is true of SE, expect that no parallel sort/merge is available. >Bottom line is that Informix 5.0 may run fine on multiprocessing >system, but it would be good idea to find out if it will run on >more than one processor concurrently. Bottom line is that Informix 5.0 (like 4.x and Turbo and SE before it) *WAS* designed to run on more than one processor concurrently. No, it's not (very) parallel, but that's not what multiprocessing is about. graeme -- Disclaimer: The author's opinions are his own, and not necessarily those of Pyramid Technology Ltd. or Pyramid Technology Inc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -m------- Graeme Sargent Voice: +44 (0)252 373035 ---mmm----- Senior Database Consultant Fax : +44 (0)252 373135 -----mmmmm--- Pyramid Technology Ltd.
