Administering Windows IDS via telnet/ssh

All:
We have some Windows 2000/XP IDS 9.x servers on which we'd like to perform
some administrative tasks (e.g. onstat to analyze the engine, onspaces to
add chunks, etc.) via lightweight character-mode connections (e.g. telnet
to the MS Telnet server, or ssh to the Cygwin SSH daemon) that do not have
access to the desktop.
If there's anybody already doing this sort of thing, could you contact me
off-list? I can't seen to get beyond this error message:
ERROR: Could not initialize the security subsystem. Please ensure that
this account has the necessary privileges and ensure INFORMIXSERVER value
exists in the registry and environment.
Thanks!

Answering my own question; sigh.

Okay, it looks like you can't use server aliases in $INFORMIXSERVER - you
have to use the primary server name...
dbaccess has problems, but other stuff appears to be working.
