-12 Out of Core SCO Kernel
Posted in 1998
Hello Informix Tech World .... We are having trouble configuring additional shared memory for OnLine. Environment: 5.01.UD2 OnLine on SCO 3.2.2 32MB Memory, 8MB of which is used by the kernel. We get a -12 Out of Core message when trying to increase BUFFERS to 7000. When we set BUFFERS to 7000, this takes the OnLine shared memory "running total" slightly over 16MB. The Informix error message suggests checking the MAXMEM parameter. There is no MAXMEM, but there is a MAXPMEM. When you try to rebuild the kernel, it says to "enter 0 to configure all available memory". This is what we have been doing. However, the /etc/conf/cf.d/mtune file states that the highest value for MAXPMEM can be 4096 (in 4k OS pages) or 16 MB. This seems to be where we bump up against the limit. If we lower BUFFERS to 6750 the system will come up. I am now wondering if MAXPMEM is what OnLine uses to determine the total amount of shared memory available, and it is topping out at 16MB because of the mtune file. Can anyone comment about OnLine's reference to MAXPMEM, or any other SCO issues that can limit one's ability to configure additional shared memory? Thanks in advance .... J. Dority
