How to Constrain smallint Positive Number only?

I'm try to figure out to restrict smallint data type to positive numbers only...Can this be done. I'm using Informix Workgroup Server 7.1. the schema I what to modify is like this: create temp table table_name(column_name smallint default 1) if this can't be done with smallint, is there another way.
