There is no absolute rule what port sqlexec has to be assigned to. You just have to make sure that it's the same port on all machines in your network. Furthermore, you don't even have to call the service "sqlexec", you can give it any other name you like. The mapping between the default name "sqlexec" and the actual service name is done via the startup command for sqlexecd (just give it the service name as an argument) and the sqlhosts file. All this is documented in the manuals. : Furthermore, it appears that : that file needs to be located in the INFORMIX\\BIN directory on the PC. This : is an administration problem for us. We would like to have one copy of the : services file out on the network. There should be a setting one can make in : the INFORMIX.INI file to tell I*Net where to look for the services file. Which vendor's TCP/IP are you using? Usually, the TCP/IP protocol stack keeps its "services" file in the same place as the "hosts" and other configuration files. This may be configurable by an environment variable. For some versions of PC/TCP, this is "FTP_ETC".
