But I don't think it has to be the absolute death of New Era. This is an excellent time for it to appear on an FTP site, and available for the masses to try out. If Informix has given it a death sentence, then at least let the rest of us out there that never got it, check it out. Release it and let some real mass developer trials get underway. Besides, Data Director for Java takes advantage of much of the guts of NE, so the technology wouldn't in my estimation be scrapped, unless DDJ would be scrapped as well. DDJ may suffer the same fate of being overpriced, undermarketed, and extremely misunderstood. The biggest single failure of New Era has not been its features, but its availability. It was overpriced from the beginning, undermarketed, and misunderstood--subsequently, undersupported. And the attitude that was expressed at the conference from Paula Hawthorne was that most of us dumb end-users weren't capable of understanding it without somebody to hold our hand. Funny how other tool makers don't see it this way, and have enjoyed great success with their tools. -- Tim Schaefer \\\\|// tschaefe@mindspring.com 6 6 -------------------------oOOo---( )---o00o---------------------- http://www.inxutil.com - My Ezine http://www.informix.com - Informix Software Inc. http://www.iiug.org - International Informix User Group/FAQ ================================================================
