Perl is a general programming tool. Not just for creating Webpages. Perl 5 with DBI and DBD-Informix is at least very fun to work with. Some things are not ready yet (like cursors with hold), but I'm sure they will be. There are problems with the dynamic linking on some Unix versions, though.
