HELP (Repost) INFORMIX SE / ODBC BASIC QUESTIONS

We are keen to provided access to Unix based Informix databases from PCs. Initially what we would want is ability to query corporate databases from ODBC products like Excel 5.0. In the future we may want to write PC based applications accessing and updating the Unix Informix databases. We are thinking of doing this using by upgrading to Informix SE 7 (which I am told has the necessary network support for the Unix side) and getting the necessary ODBC drivers. I am still unclear about all the bits I will need and how complicated it will be to put them all together. I think what I need is :- PC application software eg Excel 5 ODBC drivers eg Intersolve Informix driver Informix network product eg ??? Informix Net - is this right? IP stack eg We use Novix which is Winsock 1.1 compliant I think. Informix Unix / network bit eg What comes with Informix SE 7?? Informix database As you can see I am pretty hazy about some of the bits involved. Any clarification or personal experience of any of the above including the complexity of setting this lot up would be gratefully received. Are there any specific pitfalls in doing this? I have been recommended Intersolve or Protek ODBC drivers - any specific comments about these would also be welcome. Any pointers at relvant FAQs also welcome.
