Re: Client-Server Application

You have the following alternative as well: Borland Delphi MS Visual Basic Java with JDBC Informix NewEra as well as many other tools. I would look at Java first using Symantec Visual Cafe Pro (now a strategic partner of Informix). If that can handle your requirements Java is now where a significant part of everybodies effort is directed when it comes to dev.tools development. If Java isn't yet mature enough for what you need to do Delphi seems to be a very good alternative. The latest version 3.0 seems to have added quite a lot of functionallity to an allready good tool. Even Visual Basic can be used, and version 5 plus DataDirector from Informix may be a viable alternative. NewEra is also used with success by many although I would be carefull. I wouldn't even dream of using C/C++ (ESQL/C + MS Visual C++) unless I had very special requirements that only C/C++ could handle. C++ is simply an awfull programming tool not designed for high level GUI work (if wasn't realy *designed* for anything at all). C is very usefull for device drivers and the like (very usefull = probably the only option), but far too low level for most anything else.
