Hey there!
Thanks for all the info. I am pretty sure that this can be done using =
embedded SQL, but that means I will have to go through a large learning =
curve on the APIs of INET and SQL*NET probably.
Tell me more about DataPump and the Triznic products if you can. Addresses =
and/or phone numbers would be grand.

InfoPump sits on an X86 machine running OS/2. The InfoPump is
accessed via an InfoPump Manager client software running on MSWindows.
From the InfoPump Manager u first declare PROFILES (configuration
information) about the databases, hostnames, user ids, passwords,
database types that u want to connect to. Then u build scripts
to access the data from whichever hostname:databasename:userid
combination. This is done via InfoPump scripts which u write
yourself in a SQL like fashion...
The current limitations of InfoPump today include
unable to perform 2 phase commit across different databases
and some difficulty in parameter passing into InfoPump scripts, eg
select ... from ... where ... = "..." must be hardcoded.
Overall, the product looks very promising for certain kinds
of applications/enterprise wide connectivity... It's easy
to use and has gateways to many databases/middleware.
Address is Trinzic Corp, 101 University Avenue, Palo Alto CA 94301
The other option is to check out Oracle Gateway to Informix. This
is a read only gateway and see if it needs to be installed on
your Informix machine. Since it's readonly, there should be no
reason why they would want to build something on the Informix
side but instead read it using I-NET.
Opinions registered here are my own... Thanks.
