Hi,
I am using IDS 9.40 on HP-UX B.11.11 U 9000/800.
The instance is running since 8 days:
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 9.40.FC9W2X7 -- On-Line -- Up 8 days
05:46:57 -- 1717960 Kbytes
But when i am doing dbaccess for user defined databases, it is throwing the
below error:
311: Cannot open system catalog (systables).
155: ISAM error: Primary and Mirror chunks are bad
Whilst for system databases, its running fine.
All the LV's for this database are fine. No error thrown. Can someone please
suggest a solution to work around this?
I understand that that the DB might be corrupt, well in that case, please
suggest how to restore DB from the BCV copy?
Thanks and Regards,
Kamlesh Gallani

What is a "BCV copy"?

Business Continuity Volume. In my environment, daily BCV splits are taken. Usually it is taken by Unix guys. But here, they have not restored from BCV until yet. If someone has any idea, that would be helpful.
OK, so that is a backup of the storage used by the database taken while the
database was online. Did you block the server from writing to disk during
the time the BCV backups were taken (onmode -C block; take backup; onmode
-C unblock)? If not then it will be hit or miss as to whether restoring
one will result in a consistent image of the database that will be usable.
In addition, you will be missing any transactions that were made
modifications to the database after the backup was made.
You should have been making archives using the Informix ontape or onbar
utility!
As to how you can restore the BCV backup/split, I have no idea. Ask you
UNIX guys. If they've been making backups that they don't know how to
restore, then they should soon be out-of-work!
The first thing that I would do is to export all of your data that you can
using dbexport for each user database. If those fail then give me a call
and I may be able to help.
