Performance decreasing

Our system has encountered a problem. At the beginning, the system retrieves the data from the database very fast using index search. However, the performance is greatly declined as our system running a long period (4 hours, only one program). When set explain on, we discover the informix using index searching. We wonder why the performance is dropped ? Could anyone encounter this problem ? Our informix server is Online 7.11 UC1 in HP-UX 10.01. Regards, Daniel
