Backups using ONTAPE
Posted in 1997
Would be interested in how you have your backups setup.
I'd like to run ontape in a cron job, and have ontape -c
backup logical logs continuously to another disk drive which
gets dumped (via unix dump) nightly. This will allow me to
to simply change tapes each morning and that's that. (well
perhaps a second cron to copy the log backup file to log.date
nightly as well).
The question I have then is, can you run ontape without it
prompting for manual interaction - eg prompt saying "Please
insert tape.."
Would be interested in knowing how others are automating this
task.
Second question, ontape for a warm restore is giving a 155 error
waying "Primary and Mirror chunks are bad". A full cold restore
seems to work fine, but not warm. Any ideas?
Thanks,
