Bug in install script for SDK & iConnect
Posted in 1999
FYI: The installclientsdk and installconn scripts do NOT extract the second level tar file (ie slientsdkcontent.tar & conncontent.tar) if you are reinstalling EVEN with the '-f' Force flag passed in. I just installed I4GL on my DG Intel development machines over an existing ESQL/SDK installation and of course reinstalled the SDK (there is no engine on this machine so I did not have to reinstall IDS) but I was still getting "Unknown error number -33073" when I tried to compile esql code meaning, I understood, the connect versions of the message files and possibly the libraries were the wrong versions. I tried to install iConnect thinking that perhaps I had to do that (even though the SDK should have installed everything the iConnect contains anyway) but the result was the same. I called tech support and while waiting for the tech to search the database I tried extracting the SDK tar myself and running the old installesql by hand. While this was running the tech came back with a month old case detailing the problem and the solution I had stumbled upon. So note that if you have to reinstall iConnect or SDK you will have to untar the innermost tar file by hand and execute the lowest level install script, which is in that tarball, manually.
