But...logical logs don't get backed up to tape until they are complete. You could lose up to 25Mb worth of transactions!! I have the same log space as you but a better abiltity to survive disk failures. A corrupt VTOC on the disk containing the logical logs and the dbspace containing logical logs would not be accessible. I prefer to get as much on a tape as soon as possible. This also allows recovery from tape onto a second machine in case of CPU or power supply failure. Remember in the event of a real disaster you can only count on what is on tape. I would plan to have enough logspace to be able to recover and I keep the long tranasction watermarks low (30/40). A production system I run has 1000 250K logical logs i.e. 250Mb of logs. This should be enough. With Online 7 you can have up to 32767 250K logical logs i.e. 8Gb of logical logs!! -- David Williams Maintainer of the Informix FAQ Primary site (Beta Version) http://www.smooth1.demon.co.uk Official site http://www.iiug.org/techinfo/faq/faq_top.html I see you standin', Standin' on your own, It's such a lonely place for you, For you to be If you need a shoulder, Or if you need a friend, I'll be here standing, Until the bitter end...
