JDBC/Informix text datatype
Posted in 1999
Does anyone know if there's a way to insert/update a column defined as "text" from within JDBC and NOT having to use a PreparedStatement or a Statement object? I think I may have encountered an Informix/JDBC driver bug (my previous post describes the problem) and it deals with using a PreparedStatement object to insert a row into the database (causes an Informix "system error null" exception to be thrown sometimes but not all of the time). The only reason I am using PreparedStatement/Statement objects on an insert is because the only example I could find (that shows how to insert/update "text" columns within JDBC for Informix) uses PreparedStatement objects and then calls setAsciiStream()/getAsciiStream() to set/get the "text" datatype from the statement. If there's a way to accomplish inserting/updating of 'text' columns (not char or varchar) without having to use prepared statements within JDBC, I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone could let me know where to go and look for it.
