The information is per-column in the index -- you can do
CREATE INDEX i ON t(c1 asc, c2 desc, c3 asc);
Descending order for a column is indicated by a negative (non-null) column
number in the partX fields.
This is covered in the Informix Guide To SQL: Reference manual, in the
chapter on the system catalogue, table SysIndexes. For 7.1, the page
reference is p2-26..p2-29.
