SCO guys had problems with TCP/IP implementation (STREAMS)... I loaded oss449e patch (subversion oss449a was a horror) and no problems since then. But SCO is selling 5.0.4 version now and I don't know if it is so stable as 5.0.2. > 640k limit? What's that on Unix? Have never heard of it. > Standard bus? Well.... PC architecture is very old and I would say obsolete. If you don't want to have any additional problems then go with a brand name computer (Compaq for example)... If you go with SUN it will be even better. SUN can control the development of the hardware. Their hardware is much more reliable than *ANY* PC hardware, including Compaq's. Remember that Compaq computers are STILL PCs! > That means the TPC/C results are bad and this is very interesting. Can > you give some hard numbers? > Real speed in real situations is the major differentiatior for us as > long as stability and reliability is there. Don't count on MHZs and all other marketing tricks... For example, our *very old* SUN SS20 (1 SuperSPARC II 50MHz) STILL beats Pentium/166 in most things... It is able to handle about 30 users at average and it's uptime is somewhere near 200days or so. The last shutdown was because we had to add another disk drive... Our Compaq prosignia server (also very old) had several ECC errors (unrecoverable) in 3 years... It's uptime is somewhere 60 days or so. Well I'm still glad that it works near expectations... But not as good as SUN SS20. The real issue here is if your budget can handle SUN's expensive hardware. If yes then go with SUN. Never mind the $$$ difference. =boris -- ============================================================================ Boris Benko, dipl.ing. | E-mail: Boris.Benko@telekom.si Telekom Slovenije, PE Murska Sobota | B.Benko@s-gms.ms.edus.si Senior Prog./Sys admin./Informatik | Boris.Benko@uni-mb.si Slu'ba za informatiko | Phone: +386 69 31 676 | +386 69 37 800 21 ============================================================================
