Hola Antonio. Have you ever considered using environment variables to store the values of database servers that can change, like your case, and use dynamic cursor in your 4gl programs ?, anyway i read one answer that someone replied using a strored procedured and a shell script and seem quite well, but of course, any solution will work only if the new database server is configured in the sqlhosts. luck. >From: Ant'nio Roque <antonio.roque@auchan.pt> >Reply-To: Ant'nio Roque <antonio.roque@auchan.pt> >To: "informix iiug list" <informix-list@iiug.org> >Subject: two questions >Date: Thu, 7 Oct 1999 12:35:42 +0100 > >Hi people , I'm working with Informix Dynamic Server Version 7.30.FC7 , for >HP-UX > >1) Is possible , using only 4gl ( no c compiler ) before start a >transaction ( begin work ) to detect if I'm already in one transaction ? > >2) sorry to ask this again , also would like to know if , using 4gl only , >if I can retrieve the server's names of all my remote databases > > one sample : I have 14 remote databases ( stores ) ( all Informix >Dynamic Server Version 7.30.FC7 ) , the database name is all ways > the same > > dbs@server1tcp , dbs@server2tcp , ... and so on , what I would like to >retrieve is the "@server?tcp" name that are availaible from > central database > > This would be very help full to me ,because if my DBA added a new >database server or change the name without telling me > , ( all ways does that ...!) , I would'nt be need to change code of the >applications. > > I know this way of working is stupid ,but here I'm to small to change >any thing ......
