9.40 Patch and Support Level

I am trying to find out the current situation for Informix 9.40 for one of our customers and would be grateful if you could please let me know the following: 1. I noticed that the last fix pack was in 2007. Are there any plans for further patches? 2. When will support for 9.40 end? 3. What is the optimum upgrade path for 9.40? 4. We had issues using OLEDB with earlier versions and so used a 3rd party product for interfacing with OLEDB. What is the current recommendation for OLEDB? I did try contacting IBM direct but got nowhere! Many thanks in advance! Ian Logan

IDS 9.40 went out of support in September 2009. There will be no more fixpacks or feature upgrades to 9.40, except for the occasional critical bug fix. Since IDS 10.00 goes out of support next year, you should be upgrading to 11.xx and should probably skip 11.10 altogether and go straight to 11.50. The current fixpack level for 11.50 is xC5 with xC6 expected to go GA sometime in 2010 Q1. IDS 11.50 is supported by CSDK and iConnect v3.50 which has, IB, OK support for OLEDB. IDS 11.50 also supports the IBM DRDA protocol that DB2 uses in addition to the usual Informix SQLI protocol so you can also use the IBM DRDA connection package which has slightly better performance for .NET applications and may or may not perform better for OLEDB applications. YMMV, but you have the more options after an upgrade. Art Art S.
