Upgrading 32bit to 64bit IDS
Posted in 2008
Sue was migrating IDS 9.21 (32-bit HP-UX) to IDS 11.10 (64-bit Itanium) with dbexport/dbimport, and dbimport failed creating a table with a Web DataBlade 'html' column: error 9793, "User Defined Routine (assign) module load failed." Suggestions included dropping the "informix." type qualifier, doing an in-place ontape restore/conversion instead, and editing the schema's DataBlade paths (she changed web.4.00.HC2 to web.4.13.FC3, with no improvement); Art Kagel offered his dbcopy utility as an alternative transfer method. The last tip was to set DB_LIBRARY_PATH in ONCONFIG to include the DataBlade directory, since IDS 11.10 restricts loading external UDR modules. No confirmation of a fix is recorded in the thread.

I am trying to upgrade from IDS 9.21 32bit on HP-UX 11 (including all the
blade software) to IDS 11.10 64bit on HP Itanium including 64bit datablades.
I am getting problems importing the databases on the new machine. I have used
dbexport/dbimport and when importing, it complains and terminates as follows:
create table "informix".webtags
(
id varchar(40) not null ,
parameters varchar(250),
class varchar(40),
description varchar(250),
content "informix".html not null ,
primary key (id)
) extent size 16 next size 16 lock mode page;
*** prepare loadobj
9793 - User Defined Routine (assign) module load failed.
This problem has been reported before
http://www.iiug.org/forums/datablade-list/index.cgi/noframes/read/114
and the solution was a missing '.' but I am not sure where the '.' should be.
Can anyone out there help me ?
Try changing this:
content "informix".html not null ,
To this:
content html not null ,
in the schema file and see what happens.

Sue, I dont know if this could help you. But some time ago I have to
migrate from IDS 10 64 bits to IDS 11 32 bits (testing enviroment). What
I do was intall IDS 10 32 bits, recover a backup with ontape -r and then
initializate IDS 11 32 bits pointing my DBSPACES to the DBSPACES that I
restore with IDS 10 ontape. When IDS 11 starts it automatically convert
my databases. I really dont know if this could work from IDS 9 32 bits
=> IDS 11 64 bits.

The problem probably has to do with the datatyp html that is defined in the
web datablade. To create a table with a column of that datatype IDS need
access to functions to handle it, the "assign" function.
If you look at the definition of the external function assign you will find
that I you have the path to the Datablade there. Could it be that you have
upgraded the Web Datablade and the path has changed?
You can handle it in different ways, none of them really nice, I think.
* install the old version of the Datablade, import the DB, upgrade Datablade
* edit dbimport script, remove every thing that has to do with the Datablade
(tables, types, casts, funcions..), load DB, register Web Datablade in the DB,
unlolad the web Datablade-tables from old base, load them in the new system
(or migrate all appages using DDW from the old to the new DB)
* ...

Or the easier way is export, edit the schema file and change all the
webblade path entries to the new 64 bit version
-$INFORMIXDIR/extent/web.4.13.FC<something> as a guess.
If you have multiple references to the UC version then you can (normally)
remove the older version e.g if you have 4.12.UC3 and 4.13.UC2 you can just
remove references to the 4.12.UC2 one

I have updated all references of the web datablade in the sql file
from web.4.00.HC2
to web.4.13.FC3
and I still get the same error when i run dbimport.
Any other ideas ?
Is DBExport/DBImport the easiest way to transfer data from old server to new
server ?
If you have both servers active, and there is a fast enough network pipe
between them, you can try using my dbcopy utility to move the data directly
from one server's database to the other. You can run at least one and
possibly two copies of dbcopy per CPU VP on the target machine if the pipe
is fast/wide enough to handle the data storm and you can run the dbcopies on
either the source or the host (or both I suppose) or on a third machine
(which actually works better than one would suppose it does). Dbcopy is
part of the package utils2_ak which you can download from the IIUG Software
Repository or you can get it from the Oninit web site. You may have to add
some small bits of code to handle the HTML and other UDR type columns
though, I don't think I put a block in there for UDRs. Also in the package
utils4_ak are a bunch of AWK scripts that read dbschema or myschema output
and produce shell scripts to operate on all tables. There's one in there,
mkdbcopy.awk, that's made to order for this project.

Did you set the configuration parameter DB_LIBRARY_PATH (in ONCONFIG) to
include the datablade directory (like $INFORMIXDIR/extend/web.4.13.xxx). IDS
>=11.10 restricts use of external UDR/UDTs except those specified.
