I'm trying to start informix on RedHat6.0,
but oninit fails with "Segmentation fault".
Any other executable says "Unable to load locale categories".
What could be the problem?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

You must set and export the environment variable INFORMIXDIR set to the
parent directory of the bin containing the oninit executable for ALL
users and for the login session that is attempting the start the
engine. If you have not set this one there are probably others you
have overlooked which will bite you next:
ONCONFIG The name of the config file if not "onconfig.std" (set it
anyway if you did not make a copy of that sample file).
DBSPACETEMP List of dbspaces to use for sorting (non-critical)
INFORMIXSERVER The name you gave to your instance in the ONCONFIG file
in the DBSERVERNAME parameter.
PATH Add $INFORMIXDIR/bin to the path of the session starting the
engine, and all user PATHs.
DBPATH List of fallback servers' DBSERVERNAMEs in case the local
INFORMIXSERVER is not available.

The locale categories message implies that you've not set INFORMIXDIR.
Oninit shouldn't fail with segmentation faults.
