Help me defend the cause!
Posted in 1997
Our company was recently bought by a large company. One of the reasons for the buy out was the superior implementation of technology within our firm with the possibility of propagating it to the other "holdings" of our parent company that deal in the same arena (we are a Broker/Dealer, now one of four owned by the parent company). Our system is built on an Informix database using 4gl applications. The head of IS for the division in a preliminary evaluation made the following statement: "...system is built on an Informix database. A recent industry analysis stated Informix is having severe business problems. We should be mindful of this when reviewing our options." Note also that this individual has built his system on Oracle and has bought into its propaganda machine. I think we are all very aware of the business problems of Informix and the remarks made by its competitors, so comments like the above are not too surprising. I'm putting a rebuttal together as part of some documentation we are sending to him to help in the evaluation (and to keep from having to switch over to Oracle which I DON'T want to do!). Any help, information, remarks, etc. would be greatly appreciated, especially as they relate to his statement. Thanks for your help! -------------------------------------------------------- Name: Bill Weaver E-mail: Bill Weaver <billw@fscorp.com> Date: 10/31/97 Time: 13:55:01 This message was sent by Z-Mail Pro - from NetManage NetManage - delivers Standards Based IntraNet Solutions --------------------------------------------------------
