Re: Upgrading IDS version on PRI need rebuilt HDR/

It is documented in the migration guide.
In certain (minor) upgrades you don't need to restore the secondaries:

60.htm
Problem is... how to know when an upgrade will do a conversion. Running
"onmode -b dummy" on the new version can be a start.
In any case, my personal opinion (big official disclaimer here) this is a
serious limitation.
If you feel this is important to you, add your voice to this feature
request (vote):

My ignorance tells me it shouldn't be too hard to achieve. The feature is
currently classified as "under consideration".
This can be a very critical issue, specially for large instances that are
physically far away.
I have plans to prove a theory, but never had the time to do it:
1- Freeze the primary
2- Identify the changed pages since upgrade
3- Copy the pages to secondary
4- Start it with the new version
Finally, it's important to note that Informix has features to do a rolling
upgrade of a cluster without unavailability. I suppose we have customers
doing it, but I think it's too complex (not in terms of operator actions)
for big instances. But you should investigate if that could work for you.
Regards.

My email works... but I don't check it frequently...

Hi, The manual is somewhat vague about when a rebuild is required and that part documentation doesn't seem to have changed since at least the 11.50 version. I recall from somewhere, although I can't find a link, that an 11.70 to 12.10 upgrade on a system with HDR does not require a recovery of the secondary from a backup like 11.50 to 11.70 did. It would be fairly easy for me to test this at some point. However, did I imagine this? Ben.
You did :) On Mon, Mar 3, 2014 at 5:19 PM, BENJAMIN THOMPSON < benjamin.thompson@bskyb.com> wrote: > Hi, > > The manual is somewhat vague about when a rebuild is required and that part > documentation doesn't seem to have changed since at least the 11.50 > version. > > I recall from somewhere, although I can't find a link, that an 11.70 to > 12.10 > upgrade on a system with HDR does not require a recovery of the secondary > from > a backup like 11.50 to 11.70 did. I have voted for this feature and also asked my peers to do so as well. Because, i fully agree with you that it is serious limitation and this should be resolved ASAP. Thanks for all your help and useful discussion. Regards, Khan
