Trish, There is a way to do this in ISQL, something like "select CURRENT datetime", not absolutely sure, so check out the manual. If you are using UNIX, the command "date" returns the current date and time, so an executable file like the one below would give you what you want: date isql "database-name" "query-name" date would do the same thing, and it is much easier.
