You can always DESCRIBE the select statement you are using after preparing it (assuming ESQL/C). If you are using ODBC I cannot help but it is safe to assume that the columns have the same type as the columns that they were selected from and that aggregates are type integer for servers prior to V7 and Informix Decimal for V7+. Other calculated fields have values appropriate to their constituent parts (ie add two integers you get an integer, add an int to smallint you get an int). Art S. Kagel
