Is /tape1 the full path name, or is it /dev/tape1? If /dev/tape1, then you
need oserv:/dev/tape1.

TAPEDEV oserv://dev/tape1
result : could not write to archive tape
TAPEDEV oserv:\\\\dev\\tape1
result : could not write to archive tape
TAPEDEV oserv:\\\\.\\tape1 result : could not write to archive tape

Try:
TAPEDEV oserv:/dev/tape1
Make sure that the local user id that you use to invoke the backups has
a ".rhosts" entry on the machine with the tape drive.
If that isn't clear, then bone up on UNIX a bit.

Thanks for your help, if I try this, he returns "could not write archive tape" BTW, I'm running Windows NT 4.0 Clay Speicher wrote in message <7kqiv8$54v$1@nnrp1.deja.com>... >Try: > >TAPEDEV oserv:/dev/tape1 > >Make sure that the local user id that you use to invoke the backups has >a ".rhosts" entry on the machine with the tape drive. > >If that isn't clear, then bone up on UNIX a bit. >
Try \\\\oserv\\tape1 or try to mapping the device as ej.
