sum(a*b) returns null

HP-UX 10.20 Online 7.22.UC1X2 If you do the following: select sum(x) from table The sum function will automatically filter out nulls returning the sum that you would expect. We have the following: select sum(a*b) from table This does not filter out nulls... Is this a bug, or is this how it is supposed to work? Any views, opinions? TIA
