Thanks in advance. I don't think you need to save the logical logs now. When you replace the root drive and start the recovery, the first thing that will happen is that the logical logs will be salvaged. As long as the drive that the logs are on is still good, you should be okay. If it would make you feel better, you can actually run dd against the volume that the logs are on and put it to tape or wherever you like.
