You should be able to copy everything from one machine to the other and do no other reinstallation. Just make sure the users and groups have the same numbers on both machines and you keep the permitions on every file the same. Legally of course. If your machine is dying you can replace it with another one. It's no longer possible to buy a similar machine, so any one will do. You may have had a licensing problem if you bought a multi processor machine. I assume that isn't an issue. :Q: Can I obtain I-net/ODBC connectivity to Windows clients? If your version is 4.0 or later. Prior to that I have heard of no ODBC drivers at least. Check out http://www.openlinksw.com for the best ODBC drivers. With them you don't need I-Net/I-Connect from Informix. :Q: Can I order new media from Informix? (3.5"FD or DDS tape) No need for that if you don't want to upgrade. Simply copy everything from the old machine to the new one. :I will try to discover version # on my next trip... You realy need that. Also information on what products they realy have (I-SQL, 4GL, SE or Turbo engine?). For many (most) commands in your $INFORMIXDIR/bin and other subdirectories you can type commandname -V to find the version. That would help a lot.
