Help sizing for 2 Million a day (to 10 Million)

Hi! I need to develop a solution that will support the processing of 2 million transactions a day and be scalable to 10 million with no major software modifications... The transactions are 256 bytes each. I can compute the disk requirements, but what I don't have a feel for is how powerfull a machine? They prefer some flavor of RS/6000. To prepare for the 10 million should I develop differently of will the scaleing all ocur in the Informix DBA area? Is anyone dealing with these types of numbers. Any pointers?
